Born in Cardenas, Cuba, Joe Sanchez and his family fled communist rule, seeking a new life in Miami when he was just six years old. Joe has lived in Miami-Dade since then, graduating from the Miami-Dade Public School system and Miami Dade College. Joe started in public service early in his life by serving in the United States Army Reserves for eight years. Joe continued his service as a member of the Florida Highway Patrol. There, Joe took on various roles including SWAT, Field Training Officer, and Community Affairs Officer. Joe also served his community as a local commissioner.
