MEET JOE SANCHEZ
Born in Cardenas, Cuba, Joe Sanchez and his family fled communist rule, seeking a new life in Miami when he was just six years old. He is a proud product of the Miami-Dade County Public School System and Miami Dade College.
Joe’s passion for public service ignited early. He enlisted in the United States Army Reserves, dedicating eight years to service.
In 1987, after graduating from the police academy, Joe joined the Florida Highway Patrol. He quickly rose through the ranks, taking on roles like SWAT, Field Training Officer, and Community Affairs Officer, among others.
During his 11 years as commissioner, Joe served the community in various capacities, including Chairman of the Downtown Development Authority, Chairman of the Bayfront Park Trust, a representative for Miami to the Florida League of Cities, and as Chairman of the Mayor’s International Council.
